Tarot is a 78-card divination tool that we can use to channel messages from spirit/angels/guides/the Universe/God(s), whatever feels intangible and awe-inspiring to you. Or, it’s a neat party trick. It’ll land however open you are to the experience.

The deck is split up into the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Major cards guide us through themes of The Fool’s Journey (think: every hero’s arc with all those lessons you’re learning along the way). The rest of the deck is structured similar to a classic playing card deck: four suits, Ace to King. Each suit (cups/pentacles/wands/swords) reflects a different area of our lives.

Also, tarot doesn’t rhyme with carrot (The T is silent).

While each deck has unique art that can affect interpretations, Tarot decks all follow the same structure and have the same number of cards, and are read intuitively.

Oracle decks are all independently structured, so have their own card system and tend to be guidebook-led. I usually use these as sort of a ‘top off’ to give a reading a note of finality, but they also work nicely for one-off quick messages.

Once you book a reading, we’ll hop on a video call together. I’ll probably ask you for your Zodiac sign, which is only tangentially relevant. Then I want to hear what’s on your mind: A question, a topic, where your head is generally at these days. If it’s your first time, I’ll give a little 101 explainer on the deck. We’ll take a few intentional breaths to get focused, then it’s shuffle and see what comes out time. A reading is also a conversation - you can ask questions and clarifiers as I go along, or affirm what is resonating with you.

This is where that free phone consultation comes in handy! If you’re not feeling it, no worries - I won’t lock you into any paid session.

Honestly, I’ve found that even when we go in to a reading setting an intention and focused question, the cards kinda take over and talk about what energy is screaming the loudest around you, so to speak. Coming into the conversation with a question on your mind or area to investigate will always help ground and frame where we’re going, but sometimes the clearest messages come through when we leave space for whatever wants to arrive.

Do I think it would be hilarious to charge someone $30 to show up for a reading, say “YOU’RE TOAST!” then end the call? Absolutely.

Alas, even though there IS a Death card, and a Devil card, and a heart with a bunch of swords shoved through it, and one where people are leaping out of a tower that was struck by lightning…no. You’re not going to get a reading that says you die tomorrow. It’s all symbolism.

What I will say: For the more in-depth readings, emotions can come up that are very raw. I’ve found Tarot to be less of a fortune telling tool and more of a mirror that makes you stare at a part of yourself for you to interrogate. I also believe we all have autonomy over our lives, so while it could be a message that maybe kicks things up, you always have control over what you’re going to do next. Just as with any advice, you take it or leave it and hope for the best.

I promise I’m SO fun at parties! And have yet to fully tank the vibe, especially since everyone comes in with high spirits and excitable energy.

Give your guests something to dish about between courses, a place to dip away from the dance floor, or a more fun self-discovery session in lieu of trust falls.
